The IRs today released Notice 2010-69 that indicates the W-2 reporting of the cost of medical coverage will not be mandatory for tax year 2011. Section 9002 of the Affordable Care Act originally required this information be provided to all employees on their 2011 W-2 statements. The Treasury Department and the IRS, in labeling this decision as “interim relief to employers”, indicated they anticipate issuing guidance on the reporting requirement before the end of this year.
